Just before his death, the great sea merchant makes his son swear that he will never, ever, go to the sea. In exchange for this oath, he leaves his son a vast fortune that will suffice for the rest of his life. Yet, a year later, in the dead of night, the son finds himself with a suitcase in hand on his way to the great sea, promising his wife and son that he will return within a few days. Thus begins a journey that sweeps the son into the depths of his heart. This is a story about home, passion, walls and open spaces, and the great sea that lies within each of us. The play is based on a Jewish tale from the Middle Ages |
