In 1831 he<br \/>\nwas forced to flee <\/span>Germany<span style=\"line-height: 150%\"><br \/>\nand find refuge in <\/span>Paris<span style=\"line-height: 150%\">.<br \/>\nThe <\/span>King of Prussia<span style=\"line-height: 150%\"> continued with his<br \/>\nattempts to gag him by banning all his books, prohibiting German publishers to<br \/>\npublish and sell his works, and forcing newspapers to reject his articles.<br \/>\nDespite all this Heine continued to write poetry and prose in which he<br \/>\ncriticized the king, his government, the clergy, and also writers and<br \/>\nintellectuals who took no part in the struggle for freedom and democracy in <\/span>Germany<span style=\"line-height: 150%\">. Heine<br \/>\nled the struggle against the kings of <\/span>Prussia<span style=\"line-height: 150%\"> until his last breath. He<br \/>\ndied in <\/span>Paris<span style=\"line-height: 150%\"><br \/>\nin 1856.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height:150%\"><span style=\"line-height: 150%\">While the play deals with a<br \/>\nhistorical character in a historical context, it is not a historical play. It<br \/>\nexplores the power of the writer in a modern world to change the political<br \/>\nreality by creating a public discourse on the values of the political regime.<br \/>\nIt explores the personal sacrifice that radical writers must make for<br \/>\nexpressing their demand for changes in the political climate.
